The Homework Club volunteers help when schoolwork in Finnish seems difficult
\nSchool can be hard on students with immigrant backgrounds. The pressures to learn and build your own future are even harder than on the majority population. Our Homework Club in Halinen offers support for the schoolwork of immigrant children and young people. Children receive one-to-one tuition and counselling that is otherwise unavailable in school or at home. Our volunteers from different fields provide additional tuition and help immigrant children with their homework in a friendly and supportive environment. The goal of the Homework Club is to provide assistance especially for Finnish language learning and help children to complete their homework. We also chat, play games and spend time together.<\/p>\n
Tuesday and Thursday from 13.30 pm. to 15.30 pm. at the apartment building\u2019s clubroom (Kardinaalinkatu 3 P).<\/p>\n
Approximately 15\u201325 children attend the Homework Club regularly. The Homework Club is open to all primary school and secondary school students who live in Halinen and the nearby region. The vast majority of the children (attending the Homework Club) are primary school students. Even though our Homework Club is in particular aimed at children and young people who have immigrated to Finland, all schoolchildren are welcome.<\/p>\n
Homework Club activity gives an opportunity to see what multiculturalism can be like in school. Our volunteers make close contact with immigrant children and young people and learn practical working methods for work with immigrants. In addition to helping with homework, homework help boosts your self-confidence and gives you a chance to make new friends. The aim of Homework Club is not only to help with school but also to encourage as many young people as possible to continue studies after the comprehensive school, either in a vocational school or in an upper secondary school.<\/p>\n
